We all have experienced how sequels usually do not live up to expectations but Brennan’s Volume 2 dashes this common occurrence. Vietnam Helicopter Art: U.S. Army Rotor Aircraft can be reviewed here and it is a joy to read as well as peruse the many images. Volume 2 follows the same style Brennan does so well and rewards the reader as much as what is now Volume 1. Chapters center on specific helicopter types or missions and there is an improvement, regarding Volume 1, with an art section reproducing nose art as well as markings.

The images are varied and appear to range from those taken with slides to those taken with Kodak Instamatics. These photos and films types bring back the times, the youth, the frustration and the hyper-heroic service these aviators performed for our grunts in the bush. Many are annotated bringing in historical as well as personal context—welcome and often missing from historical texts in general.

Brennan’s Volume 2 well compliments the helicopter and Vietnam War libraries of the world—as his work is incomparable.
